We run this post up option right out of transition and look to set up a lob / post up for the 5. Our first look, and it is a good one, is #1 passing to #2 on the right wing. #1 cuts through the FT line elbow area while #4 is CUTTING OFF THE BACK of #1. Very important you work on the timing of this cut. #4 can get open simply from the X action if executed properly. Just in case he isn't, #5 is now setting a back screen on #4's defender as #4 cuts over the top of #5 and to the basket. You will get some layups off this first option for #4. |
#5 back screened and now steps out to receive the pass from #2. #3 is timing is cut to the lane and then out to receive the next pass. He NEVER stands on top waiting for the ball...just a turnover waiting to happen. You need to work on this walk in and break out on the reverse pass from #5 to #3. #2, once he passed to #5, immediately cuts under the basket to the opposite low block. He DOES NOT receive a back screen from #4. |
As soon as #5 reverses the ball to #3, #4 is sliding up to set a back screen on #5's defender. #5 is instructed to "run to the rim" no matter how he is being defended and even if they know the lob is coming. #3 looks to throw the lob if #5 is open. |
#4 sets the back screen and quickly pops out to the top for the open "3" if his man helped on the lob. #5 has taken his man to the rim and then turned and sealed once the ball was thrown from #3 to #4. #4 looks to shoot if open or dump the ball down to #5 working hard in the post, getting big and wide and controlling the area around the rim with his body and footwork. |
While #5 is posting up, we take away the weakside defenders by setting a double screen for #2. #4 can pass inside or look to hit #2 breaking up on top for the open jump shot. |
