Peer Pressure (3) Rush Drills
Hopefully by breaking the court up into two sections (one down / one back) this drill will be much easier to see. First, you break your team up into three groups. One group underneath the basket holding basketballs, one group to the right and one group to the left. The drill starts with all three players starting to run straight down the floor. The middle man passes to his right just as he starts running. The man who receives the ball catches on the run and immediately passes back to the middle man who is also on the run. The middle man upon catching the ball immediately hits the man on the left side for the layup. The ball does not touch the floor. The man on the right side comes in for the rebound. The man in the middle runs to the left corner of the floor and either touches the corner end line or runs around a cone. The shooter shoots the layup and continues out to the side of the floor he is headed in. Although it may be easy to already see how the drill will conclude, in the next diagram we will cover how they will come back down the floor. |

The man who rebounded the ball quickly turns and throws is to the man who just shot the layup and is now running up the left side of the floor. The middle man is running hard in the middle as is the man on the right side of the floor after he has run around the cone. The man on the left upon catching the ball immediately passes back to the man in the middle. The man in the middle quickly turns and passes to the man running the right side of the floor for the layup. The other two players follow for the tip in. As they are shooting the layup, three new players are starting. As with all the Peer Pressure drills, you must set a goal for layups made in this drill. Usually 10 - 20 is appropriate (in a row). You may need to adjust for skill level, age, etc. Score should be set back to zero if the ball touches the floor, bad passes, missed layup, kids not running hard, not running wide, etc. You set the parameters. |
